Solving the Dementia Challenge with People, Partnership and Innovation will explore the latest news, updates and insights over two jam-packed days on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 September 2025. It will be held at the Grand Millennium, Auckland and online.
The Summit is designed so people can join all or as many sessions as they wish, and the Minister joins an impressive line-up of session co-leads and side events.
Alongside the sessions, the Summit will open with a mihi whakatau. Everybody who registers will also be invited to an open panel to explore ‘Shifting the dial for dementia support’ and a networking function.
Our Lived Experience Advisory Group will host a workshop for people and their whānau living with dementia mate wareware – ‘Nothing about us without us – co-designing change together’.
The second day will kick off with the Minister’s address, alongside the launch of the refreshed Dementia Mate Wareware Action Plan (TBC) before the sessions begin. The Summit closing will wrap-up the two-day kaupapa with karakia.
Alzheimers NZ Chief Executive Catherine is delighted to bring this wealth of expertise into one place to to spark the conversations, collaborations and commitments that will shape what comes next.
“This is a cross-sector conversation that brings together the lived experience voice, the operational voice, the policy voice and community innovation into a single space to help shift the sector for the future,” she says. “Join the kōrero to inspire, inform and connect.”
The co-leads for the sessions have been announced and include our very own Dementia Learning Centre Director Caroline Bartle leading a professional development workshop on leadership when working with people who experience distress/changed behaviours.
Lived Experience Advisory Group Member Elizabeth Duke and Dr Joanna Hikaka will co-lead a session on People and whānau-led services. Professor Ngaire Kerse and Dr Matthew Croucher will co-lead the session on integrated primary and community dementia care. We’ll see you there!
