Care partners urged to have their say on new Action Plan
Alzheimers NZ is encouraging whānau to have their say on the new Draft Carers’ Strategy Action Plan.
We are one of the more than 60 organisations that is part of the Carers Alliance, which has supported the development of this draft plan.
The draft plan focuses on three priority areas – recognition and appreciation, health and wellbeing and financial security.
“The three priority areas are based on extensive feedback with whānau care partners over many years and draw heavily on what we all hear from care partners,” says Carers Alliance Co-Chair and Alzheimers NZ Chief Executive Catherine Hall.
“Now is the time to have your say and I encourage everybody to share their experience – your voice matters.”
Whānau care partners of people living with dementia mate wareware currently provide 62.5 million hours of care each year in Aotearoa New Zealand.
“We know care partners face complex challenges that get harder as each day goes by. Now is the time to bring the harsh realities many care partners face to the attention of decision makers.”
Consultation is open until 12 February 2026 and details are on the Ministry of Social Development website including the opportunities to provide feedback such as through workshops, submissions and surveys.
Keep an eye out for workshops being held by some Carers Alliance members to help their communities have their say.
