Carer Support Groups
We facilitate a number of Carer Support Groups around the region with support groups in Bell Block, New Plymouth, Hawera and Stratford.
We also have groups tailored to specific needs, running a Male Carers Group, a Female Carers Group and a Young Onset Carers Group in New Plymouth.
Support groups bring people together who are going through similar experiences and provide an opportunity for people to share personal experiences and feelings, coping strategies, and to form valuable friendships with people ‘in the same boat’. The common experiences among members of a support group often means they have similar feelings, worries and everyday problems. Participating in a group provides you with an opportunity to be with people who are likely to have a common purpose and to understand one another.
The confidential nature of the group allows everyone to build trusting relationships, and this enables you to open up and release stress. We will often have a range of tears and laughter at our meetings.
