The age-positive icons challenging stereotypes
A new series of age-positive icons have been designed to replace the stereotypical depictions of older people in public spaces.
The new icons are the result of a competition run by the UK Centre for Ageing Better, which invited designers to rethink the hunched over stick figure.
More than 120 entries were received, and the winning icon by SwaG Design was popular among judges and audiences because of the spirit it captured, showing a pair of older people dancing.
Centre for Ageing Better Chief Executive, Dr Anna Dixon said, “Since launching the icons, we’ve been delighted with the positive responses we’ve received – it’s clear that many people feel it’s time for a new way of representing later life.”
