Thanks for supporting World Alzheimers Month 2026
A big thank you to everybody who supported World Alzheimers Month 2026 – whether you joined an event, shared on social media or marked the occasion in your own way.
This year’s theme was #DementiaDiagnosisMatters. We were pleased to host two exciting events – our pre-election political panel and conference 2026 – launch the World Alzheimer Report 2026 in Aotearoa New Zealand, share a new podcast on diagnosis and a news story on dementia design.
A special thanks to our Lived Experience Advisory Group and friends for sharing some of the challenges they faced on social media. And to everybody who took part in Move for Dementia or became a Dementia Friend.
Newly appointed Alzheimers NZ Chief Executive Dave Robinson says this was an important opportunity to raise awareness and help reduce the stigma of a diagnosis.
Advocacy and media
We asked each political party five questions in preparation for our pre-election political panel.
We’ve received answers to these questions from four parties so far and will update this page as other parties provide their answers.
We were inundated with questions at the panel itself, so have been following these up with health spokespeople from each party. You can find the answers to these questions as we get them here.
We appreciate the support of Dr Campbell Le Heron who was our media spokesperson for the World Alzheimer Report 2026.
Campbell gained extensive media coverage including this piece on RNZ and an interview with Jesse Mulligan.
Out and about
Alzheimers Nelson Tasman (pictured below) had a fantastic day out thanks to Wilderness Canoe Trust during September – fifteen people headed out from Nelson Marina by canoe to the lighthouse on the Boulder Bank.
They had an amazing guide who managed to get the key to the lighthouse, so they all got to climb to the top. It was a bit steep, but everyone made it!
A shared lunch was enjoyed on the Boulder Bank, and they finished the day with a well-earned serve of hot chips. Perfect weather, lots of laughs and a great adventure.
Leslie Groves Hospital and Pinesong Village (pictured below) hosted their own fundraising initiatives to help fundraise for dementia.
We appreciate all the donations and support. Reach out to your local Alzheimers or dementia organisation if you or anybody you know needs more support.
