What we do

Our trained staff and volunteers work with our clients and the community to support people to live the best life they can with dementia. Our Dementia Navigators work with individuals, families, whanau and any other care partners to find the best solutions for each person’s unique situation. There are many ways we can help, whether you have dementia or are caring for someone who has.

We offer support groups, social groups, walking groups, activity groups and companion groups. Talk to us to see if any of these are right for you. Throughout the year we deliver a variety of education opportunities.

Our amazing volunteers offer companionship to people with dementia and respite for carers. Our volunteer befriender and companion programmes are highly valued by our clients and make a significant difference in the lives of people living with dementia.

We can also help with any of your general queries about dementia – if you are not sure where to start, give us a call.

Social Groups

These groups are for people with dementia to participate and socialise. A team of highly trained volunteers coordinate the groups. Activities focus on retaining skills at an appropriate level for those attending. The Activity Clubs are held at the same time as four of our Carer Support Groups during the month.

Companion Group

This is a small group of people with dementia who are supported by volunteers to participate in activities once a week and enjoy a shared lunch. This is held each Monday from 10am-1pm at the Alzheimers Centre, 116, 13th Ave, Tauranga. Entry to this group is by recommendation of the Navigator.

Groups for carers / family / whanau

These meetings are facilitated by staff and held throughout the region.
Groups provide an opportunity to

  • access information and education
  • receive information relevant to your present situation and needs
  • learn tips and techniques to manage and share ideas with other carers
  • meet others in a similar situation and receive mutual support
  • enjoy the benefits of mutual sharing
  • focus on your own self care

Joining a support group is a positive way of doing something to help your-self.

All Groups are for registered client. Please contact us if you would like further information.
