Talk to your MP
Here are some things to consider when talking to politicians.
Be clear
Tell them you want to discuss the need for a government action plan to tackle the dementia mate wareware challenge in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Make the request
You can contact your MP by phone or email. Information on contacting and addressing current politicians in Aotearoa New Zealand can be found on the NZ Parliament website.
When you visit
- Respect time – they are busy!
- Focus on no more than three essential messages, for example:
- Numbers of people with dementia mate wareware are growing rapidly.
- Aotearoa New Zealand has a Dementia Mate Wareware Action Plan.
- Government must implement the Plan now to protect the wellbeing of thousands of Kiwis.
- Ask them for their views on dementia mate wareware and the need for a plan.
- Thank them for their time and attention.
After the meeting
Send a thank you note or email, and include any links or resources that might help them understand the issue further.
